This Slightly Famous Substack Publisher {is starting to} Embrace Video Regularly

Regardless of My Age or Whether or Not I Have a Face for Radio… 😉

(I left in the rough intro for laughs!)

The Era of Video Dawned ….in the 80s? 😬

That’s right, even though we love to think video is new, MTV debuted the nascent media format on August 1, 1981.

Do ya think it’s about time we got on board? Speaking only for me, I certainly do.

I’ve been late for a lot of things in life:

  • I didn’t have a tooth in my head until I was 15 months old

  • I turned 16 and passed my driver’s test when in 11th grade

  • I just started a YouTube channel (actually, I had one before about motorcycles when I was a wee lad of 50)!

  • I graduated from med school at age 31 - I was the O.G.

The point being…

It’s About Damn Time I Showed Up

The above video is my way of breaking the ice.

Did I mention that embracing & employing video is the second of ten tips for Substack publishers who want to become slightly famous?

My Other Reasons for Embracing Video

It’s more than just a factor in expanding my visibility; it allows you to get to know me beyond words and phrases.

If you think about it, only communicating via the written medium is like trying to conduct a relationship via text. Trust me; it doesn’t work.

It’s also what I see for the future as my fingers and thumbs continue to object to daily typing.

I have a form of erosive arthritis in my fingers and another form (everyday old person arthritis) in my thumbs and wrists. Ironically, the drug I take twice daily for the finger arthritis, although very effective on the fingers, doesn’t work at all on my thumbs and wrists. 🫨

Video is becoming a better medium for me, and I only see it increasing as I become more skilled and comfortable in front of the camera.

What About You and Video?

  • Are you a YouTube millionaire yet?

  • Do you host Substack Livestreams?

  • What’s your plan to dip your toes into the video pool?

I’d love to hear where you are in the Age of Video (that’s over 48 years old).🥳
